Supporting aqua farmers in protecting their fish health, Godrej Agrovet has launched a fish lice controller called ArgoRid.
The product which was introduced in technical collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) helps in healing of lesions due to parasitic attachment (Argulus Spot) on the fishes and boosts their immune system.
Argulus infections have long plagued the aquaculture industry, affecting nearly 48 per cent of Indian aquaculture ponds and causing an estimated annual loss of $ 62.5 million.
The company claimed that ArgoRid addresses this challenge through its farmer-friendly, easy-to-use formulation, making it accessible to both small-scale and large commercial fish farmers who can integrate it into their existing feeding practices.
As per the current market scenario, the fish lice infestation is causing severe damage to all the species of fishes. The current medicines in the market are only based on pesticides and chemicals and harmful drugs which damage the culture ecosystem and harm the human beings when consumed.
Argorid developed by CIFE is completely nutraceutical based on vitamins and minerals which will directly eradicate the parasite and also helps in wound healing effect.
Dhrubajyoti Banerjee, CEO-Aquafeed Business, Godrej Agrovet Ltd said India ranks third in global fish production, contributing 8 per cent to the total output. Inland aquaculture, which is the main contributor with 2.36 million hectares of pond area, has registered tremendous growth but still has significant potential to improve productivity.
The new product represents a significant innovation to strengthen India’s aquaculture sector and ensure long-term economic benefits for farmers by improving fish survival rates and boosting productivity.
