In order to encourage farmers to register more crop varieties, the Union Ministry for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has announced cash incentives to farmers.
Get more crop varieties registered under the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPV and FRA) regime and get cash incentives.
About ₹10 lakh will be given to the community for propagating the awareness on farmers rights in a particular area, while a cash incentive of ₹1.5 lakh will be given to individual farmers for clocking higher registrations of varieties which they have developed in their fields.
At a workshop organised at the Prof. Telangana State Agricultural University on Saturday, B Rajender , Joint Secretary (Seeds) and Chairman of PPV and FRA, said similar workshops were being organised in various parts of the country to create awareness among farmers on their intellectual property rights on the varieties they developed.
He said an office of PPV and FRA would be opened to cater to the needs of the farmers in the State.
