A low-pressure area, that has followed the track of the erstwhile severe cyclone 'Gaja,' lies over South-East and adjoining South-West Bay of Bengal and Equatorial Indian Ocean this morning.

India Met Department (IMD) expects it to become more ‘marked’ over central parts of the South Bay and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean (with a view of the Tamil Nadu coast) by tomorrow.

Rains for Tamil Nadu coast

Under its influence, rainfall activity is expected to scale up over coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls for three days from today.

Isolated heavy to very heavy falls is also likely over South Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka while being isolated heavy over Kerala tomorrow and the day after.

Meanwhile, the deep depression (from 'Gaja') over South-East Arabian Sea lies centred this morning over South-East Arabian Sea about 600 km West-Northwest of Agatti (Lakshadweep) and 1,430 km East-Southeast of Socotra (Yemen).

It is likely to move west-north-westwards away from the Lakshadweep area and maintain the intensity of deep depression during next 12 hours and weaken into a depression thereafter.

The IMD predicts heavy rain at a few places with isolated heavy to very heavy very likely at isolated places over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry tomorrow (Tuesday).

Rough seas

Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 km/hr gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail over central parts of South-West Arabian Sea. Sea condition is very likely to be ‘rough’ to ‘very rough’ over these areas.

Squally winds of up to 50 km/hr gusting to 60 km/hr is likely to prevail over South-West Bay along and off Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, the Palk Strait and adjoining Equatorial India Ocean. The sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over these areas. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the above mentioned areas.

Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, South Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka while being heavy rain at isolated places over Kerala on Wednesday.

Extended forecast from Saturday to Monday said that scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely over extreme South Peninsular India and isolated over rest Peninsular India.
