A cyclonic circulation over Interior Odisha and a fresh one over South Bangladesh would combine to act as the fulcrum around which the monsoon would revive in the next couple of days.

Rainfall is expected to increase over East India, adjoining Central and North Peninsular India in the bargain, India Met Department (IMD) said in the noon update.

HEAVY RAIN

This comes on top of some heavy to very heavy precipitation still being reported from parts of East India and the West Coast. The emerging spell could further compound the flood situation at some places here.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, hills of Bengal, and Sikkim, while it was heavy rains in South Gujarat and the North-Eastern States.

Significant rainfall (in cm) received during the 24 hours include: Sohra (Cherrapunjee)-18; Matheran-17; Bulsar and Mahabaleshwar- 16 each; Jalpaiguri and Harnai-14   each;  Bagdogra-13;  Alibag-10;  Agartala-9;  Dahanu-8; Darjeeling-7; Bagat-6; and Gangtok, North Lakhimpur,  Purulia, Jamshedpur, Ujjain and Wardha-5 each.

In view of the new developments, the IMD has warned that sea conditions may remain 'very rough' over East-Central Arabian Sea and along and off the Gujarat coast during the next two days.

WESTERN DISTURBANCE

For the West-Central Arabian Sea (West of Lakshadweep), the warning  would be valid for four days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas during this period.

Meanwhile, North-West India bristles with the prospect of arrival of western disturbance and its interaction with fresh monsoon easterlies from the Bay of Bengal.

This would only escalate the rainfall over the plains and along the hills of North-West India, as it happened a few days ago and continues in isolated areas in the hills.

At noon today, the IMD spotted the incoming western disturbance as cyclonic circulation having pitched a tent over North Pakistan and neighbourhood.

The Bay would soon go into a churn under the influence of the cyclonic circulations that it is hosting currently, and send up the easterly moist-laden monsoon winds.

MORE RAIN FORECAST

This would happen as and when the eastern end of the monsoon trough shifts to the South and links with the circulations by the Bay waters, clearing the way for the monsoon winds.

The axis of the trough passes through Bhatinda, Hissar, Aligarh, Bahraich, Muzzaffarpur, Jalpaiguri, Goalpara and Jorhat.

As for today, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over Konkan and Goa;  heavy to very heavy rain over Madhya Maharashtra; heavy rain at isolated places over Vidarbha, hills of Bengal,  Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, South Gujarat and Coastal Karnataka.

Thunderstorm with gusty winds and lightning has been warned of at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka.
