Small cardamom prices continued to show a firmer trend in recent days on strong demand at auctions held in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Total arrivals were up at 707 tonnes last week from 593 tonnes the previous week. The individual auction average has moved up to ₹906.32 a kg from ₹881.17 last week.

In the upcountry markets, a likely squeeze in availability and empty inventories have aided the price rise, said PC Punnoose, General Manager, CPMC.

At the auction held today in Bodinayakannur by Cardamom Planters Association (CPA), the individual auction average rose by to ₹929.02 a kg from ₹861.14 in the previous week. A total of 37 tonnes of cardamom arrived and almost the entire quantity was traded. The maximum price stood at ₹1,134 a kg.

Prices of graded varieties (₹/kg): 8mm green bold ₹1,200; 7-8 mm: 980; 6-7 mm 925. Good bulk was being traded at ₹960- ₹1,000.
