The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised an interactive session with the office-bearers of various Resident's Associations, in the wake of the Kochi Corporation's decision to ban plastic carry bags of less than 40 microns. Mr T. K. Ashraf, Standing Committee Chairman (Health) of Kochi Corporation, pointed out that the decision to implement the ban on plastic carry bags of less than 40 microns from January 16, is based on the judgement of the Apex Court. He expressed the hope that all residents of the city would extend their co-operation for this project, which will ultimately benefit them in the long run. As part of spreading awareness among the masses, the corporation has chalked out plans to engage the services of about 1,000 students from city schools, who will be divided into 50 groups. Plans are also in the offing to incorporate a campaign in schools from next academic year including rewarding the students for collecting plastics. All the development projects will be successful only with the support of public, he said.
