The Cabinet has approved an MoU between India and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland on the return of illegal migrants.
“The MoU will help in streamlining the procedure for return of nationals who are caught to be staying illegally, belonging to the other party in a specified time-frame,” an official statement added.
The MoU will also facilitate visa free agreement for the holders of diplomatic passports as well as liberalisation of UK visa regime for those who are travelling legally.
The Cabinet has also given its nod for revision of pay and allowances of Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories. This revision will bring the pay and allowances of LGs on par with that of the Secretary of the Government of India.
An official statement said that the pay and allowances will be increased with effect from January 1, 2016 to Rs 2.25 lakh plus dearness allowance, sumptuary allowance at the rate of Rs.4,000 per month and local allowances at the same rate as applicable to the officers of the rank of Secretary to the Government of India.
It is currently at Rs 80,000 per month plus dearness allowance, sumptuary allowance at the rate of Rs 4,000 per month and local allowances.
