Emami Agrotech Ltd (EAL), a part of the Emami Group of Companies, on Tuesday, announced an investment of Rs 300 crore in Bengal to expand the refining capacity of its edible oil facility at Haldia.

The expansion, by 1,000 tonnes per day (TPD), is likely to be completed by the end of this year. It will also include a 7.5 MW captive power plant.

The company currently has a refining capacity of 4,000 TPD through its two facilities - a 3,000 TPD capacity unit located at Haldia and a 1,000 TPD unit at Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

According to Manish Goenka, Director, Emami Group, post expansion, the Haldia facility will be the company's largest single location edible oil refinery in the country.

“Apart from expanding our existing facilities, the company will also be coming up with two new plants near Kandla Port in Gujarat," Goenka said as per a release issued by the company.

The foundation stone for this Haldia expansion project was laid by Suvendu Adhikari, State Transport Minister, along with directors Goenka and Aditya Vardhan Agarwal.
