The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) is set to increase the intake of female students from the current 30 per cent to 40 per cent for its post-graduate programme.
Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK, told newspersons here on Saturday that the institute would eventually raise the share of female students in the institute to 50 per cent. The institute was increasingly laying emphasis on diversifying the concept of inclusive growth on a much larger and global scale, he noted. Dr. A.C. Muthiah, Chairman of IIM-K, was also present.
Prof. Chatterjee said IIM-K was the first IIM in the country to ensure 30 per cent intake of female students to its PG programme and the others were following suit. This was, however, only one of the many strategies of the institute for inclusive growth and diversity on the campus, and steps had been initiated to enrol students from different streams such as humanities and commerce.
Tie-up
The institute, which recently entered into a tie-up with Yale University for a Centre of Leadership for Academic Excellence, was the first IIM to receive the global accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) for its various programmes.
It is also the first IIM planning to set up a Museum of Indian Business History and the first B-school to start the C.K. Prahalad Foundation on the campus, Prof. Chatterjee pointed out.
Dr. Muthiah said the institute had made great strides in a few years to become an international destination for research, training and teaching.
The research programmes of the institute, at present, focus on achieving ‘thought leadership' in the field of education, environment and health.
IIM-K recently doubled its core faculty and augmented its executive education and distance learning programmes with a vision to ‘globalise Indian thought,' and showcase a humane B-school that churned out competent and compassionate managers, Dr. Muthiah said.
