The number of Indians touring Australia is on the rise. In the first five months of 2011, about 64,900 tourists visited “Down Under,” an increase of 10.6 per cent over the comparative period in 2010.

Interestingly, in May 2011 alone nearly 15, 000 Indians travelled to various locations in Australia.

Facilitating a two-way growth in tourism between India and Australia, Tourism Australia is holding the India Travel Mission 2011 (ITM) at Hyderabad during August 25-28.

Business ties

The ITM is a residential business forum bringing together Indian travel agents and Australian tourism industry operators to meet and forge business relationships.

The event will see over 90 buyer delegates from travel agencies across India meeting with about 40 seller counterparts from Australia. Ms Maggie White, Regional General Manager, South/South-East Asia and Gulf Countries, Tourism Australia, said in a press release.

Airlines participate

ITM 2011 will see participation from four major airlines: AirAsia, Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia – all except Qantas participating for the first time. The ITM this year will also see the coming in of new seller companies such as Mercure Sydney, Mirvac Hotels & Resorts and The Menzies Sydney, Mr Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager - India, Tourism Australia, said.

ITM gives an opportunity to bring together our partners from India and showcase a range of products and experiences available to Indian travellers.
