The Kochi-based NGO Kite Life Foundation with the financial support of Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd has started a novel initiative to equip Government hospitals in Kerala with clean drinking water facilities meeting potable standards.
The initiative was inaugurated Prof K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, by handing over the first two units to the General Hospital here. The pilot project to install seven clean drinking water solutions at six selected locations of the Government/ Taluk Hospitals in Ernakulam district is implemented by Kite Life Foundation. The units for the project were specially designed and supplied by Eureka Forbes Ltd.
Installations
As part of the pilot project, two units are being installed at the Government General Hospital, Ernakulam, one unit each is implemented at Women and Child Hospital, Mattanchery, Taluk Hospital, Fort Cochin, Maharajas Hospital, Karuvelippadi, Government Taluk Hospital, Aluva and Government Taluk Hospital, North Paravur.
In the next phase of the project, Kite Life Foundation will commission clean drinking water units in Government hospitals in Thiruvananthapurm and Kozhikode with the support of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages.
Mr Rajesh Nair, President, Kite Life Foundation said that the hospitals have been selected with the help of District Medical Office to provide them with the facilities based on the lack of availability of purified water and number of patients. We will work on this project to take it to other locations and across Kerala in the next one year, he said.
Mr Ajai Kumar, General Sales Manager for Kerala, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, said that the company would like to contribute to the communities by way of implementing innovative projects in access to water, water conservation and management across the country. The Clean Drinking Water Initiative in Government hospitals of Kerala is the latest in these efforts.
