India has said both Israel and Iran must avoid any escalatory steps and existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation.
“We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel… India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues,” per a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
Israel launched unprecedented strikes across Iran targeting the “heart” of Iran’s nuclear programme on Friday.
In a counter attack, Iran reportedly launched about 100 drones towards Israel, which the Israeli military said it is trying to intercept.
The US warned Iran against retaliating against America. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Israel took “unilateral action” and the US had nothing to do with it.
The MEA statement noted that India enjoyed close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support.India is closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites, it added.
Indian missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. “All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories,” it said.
