The DMK chief, Mr M. Karunanidhi, today met the Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi, the first such meeting between the two leaders after their alliance’s rout in the April 13 Tami Nadu Assembly polls.
Mr Karunanidhi and his wife Ms Rajathi Ammal went to Ms Gandhi’s 10-Janpath residence this morning and held discussions for about 30 minutes.
Sources said the DMK patriarch is also understood to have raised the issue of his jailed daughter, Ms Kanimozhi, who was arrested in connection with the 2G spectrum case. Ms Kanimozhi is also the party MP.
The meeting comes on a day when the special CBI court is set to pronounce its order on framing of charges in the 2G case. The court will resume hearing on the bail applications of various accused, including that of Ms Kanimozhi, from October 24. Senior DMK leader, Mr T.R. Baalu, was also present during the meeting.
Mr Karunanidhi left 10-Janpath without speaking to media. He left through a gate where the media was not present.
He is also likely to meet Ms Kanimozhi in Tihar Jail.
