To enhance access to its e-ticket portal, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has launched a new application for Windows phones and Windows 8 devices.
The app will offer users a new channel for booking e-tickets in addition to the existing portal, a Railway Ministry release said.
The IRCTC-App, launched in collaboration with Microsoft, provides ‘Anytime, Anywhere’ access to IRCTC services. It was launched by Rakesh Tandon, CMD, IRCTC, along with Joseph Landes, General Manager – Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft Corporation.
“The users of Windows phone, Windows 8 Desktop/Tab can download, completely free, this application as per their requirement from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store respectively,” the release said.
Using this app, one can plan a trip, make rail reservations, check the PNR status and perform all the tasks already available on the IRCTC Web site. It will be available throughout the day except 8 am to noon and 11.30 p.m. to 12.30 a.m., as per the existing Railway guidelines.
The app will also offer exclusive services to users, such as visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles (lighting up as train tickets) and access to saved traveller profiles from multiple devices.
