Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) on Tuesday welcomed the allocation of Rs.2,000 crores to modify all Railway tracks and extending online ticketing time to 23.30 hrs.
It also welcomed the SMS alerts to passengers providing updates on reservation status, and Introduction of “Azadi Express” to connect places associated with freedom. The decision of the Railways to fill 47,000 vacancies with weaker sections and physically challenged people was also good move. Tamil Nadu was getting only two trains one between Nagercoil to Bangalore (Daily), Coimbatore to Rameswaram, and Chennai to Palani (Daily).
It was disappointed about not introducing new trains from Kanyakumari, Tuticorin and Madurai to Chennai, used by lakhs of passengers every day.
The association expressed unhappiness with Supplementary charges for super fast trains, reservation fee and increase in ticket cancellation, Association President Manimaran said.
