The High Court of Bombay on Tuesday dismissed the public interest litigation (PIL) filed against Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust awarding a container terminal project to PSA International of Singapore, a port official said.
The petition, filed by a journalist, questioned the port’s decision to award the project to the same company (PSA) which had virtually backed out of the same project after winning it in a similar tender two years ago.
The concession agreement for the project – the single largest foreign direct investment in the Indian port sector – was signed by PSA last month. If the petition was admitted, it would have been a major setback for JNPT as the ₹8,000 crore project- the fourth container terminal at the port – was already delayed due to disputes and litigations, said a port sector analysts.
