M.V. Wisdom, the 10,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) vessel that broke the tow rope and started drifting on way to Alang ship, breaking yard from Colombo, has beached close to Mumbai's Juhu beach.

The Director General of Shipping, who is closely monitoring the situation, has engaged SMIT, a global salvage firm, to assess the situation. “The SMIT team is not being able to board the ship because of bad weather and efforts are being made to board the ship from helicopter and explore the possibility of re-floating it,” the Union Shipping Minister, Mr G.K. Vasan, told media persons. He, however, said there is no threat of pollution or threat to the sea link in Mumbai. “It is an empty ship without any cargo or bunkers,” he said, adding that further plans can be finalised only after the SMIT team gives its assessment.
