The Railway Minister, Mr Dinesh Trivedi, on Thursday flagged off the first BEML-made stainless steel EMU (electrical multiple unit) for suburban trains and the 100-tonne stainless steel wagon. The wagon will be deployed on the proposed freight corridor.
The defence enterprise has designed and produced them at its Bangalore complex for Indian Railways.
Model Metro station
The Minister also inaugurated BEML's model of a Metro station outside its facility to coincide with the launch of the Bangalore Metro rail service.
BEML is making the coaches under licence from its Korean partner, Rotem.
OHE car
On the same occasion, Mr K. H. Muniyappa, Minister of State for Railways, dedicated to the nation BEML's eight-wheel OHE car.
The car will be deployed on rail tracks for repair of overhead electric lines.
