Cochin Shipyard Ltd has delivered the world’s first high-tech Rolls Royce series Platform Supply Vessel to the Shipping Corporation of India.
The ship, christened SCI Nalanda, was handed over in the presence of chairmen of SCI and CSL, S. Hajara and K. Subramanian, respectively.
SCI Nalanda is the first of the two high-tech offshore vessels being built by the yard on the UT 755 CD design of Rolls Royce for the Shipping Corporation of India.
The high-end diesel electric vessel is dually classed under the Rules and Regulations of DNV and the Indian Register of Shipping. It is registered under the Indian flag with Mumbai as its home port.
The vessel, with redundant dynamic positioning system features, has been assigned the Clean Design notation by DNV, indicative of the highest levels of environmental compliance. Further, the noise and vibration levels of the ship are extremely low.
Its bridge systems are laid down meeting stringent ergonomic and safety requirements. It is equipped with external fire fighting equipment, inert stainless steel tanks for carriage of low flash liquids like methanol and is fully outfitted to meet UKOOA type C-requirements for emergency rescue and recovery functions.
The second vessel in the series is slated for delivery next month, a press release said.
