Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) has signed a contract for the construction of Buoy Tender Vessel (BTV) for the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, Noida.
Being a highly specialised and high-tech vessel, the BTV is expected to give CSL considerable exposure and expertise in achieving its vision in this sector, a CSL press release said.
CSL has been making a mark in the high-end offshore vessel segment and has set its sights on niche segments like seismic vessels, diving vessels and drill vessels.
The contract documents were signed by A. M. Surej, Director General on behalf of DGLL and P. Vinayakumar, Director (Technical) on behalf of CSL.
It is a high-end BTV equipped with a 35T Tool Crane and a helicopter deck with a D-value of 16 metres. It is also equipped with two 2,000 KW diesel engines and two controlled-pitch propellers.
The vessel is equipped with Sonar to locate and mark wrecks up to a depth of 40 metres and can accommodate 32 persons.
This multipurpose vessel is used to transport and place buoys in positions at deeper depths, recover buoys and their moorings for examination and overhaul, attend to their lighting equipment, towing and mooring of light vessels, and distress management in areas with strong currents.
