The domestic airlines flew 1.18 crore passengers in October this year, registering a year on year growth of 20.11 per cent over the 1.04 crore passengers flown by the industry in the same period previously.

The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) shows that IndiGo carried 50.75 lakh passengers of the over 1.18 crore passengers flown during October this year. Jet Airways carried 15.72 lakh passengers and took the second position while Air India came in third as it carried 14.44 lakh passengers.

SpiceJet flew 13.82 lakh passengers, Go Air (10.48 lakh), AirAsia (6.43 lakh), Vistara (4.35 lakh) and JetLite (1.89 lakh) during October this year.

SpiceJet reported the highest Passenger Load Factor among all domestic carriers at 90.8 per cent followed by GoAir (84.1 per cent), IndiGo (83.1 per cent) and AirAsia (82.8 per cent). Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.

GoAir reported the best on-time performance (OTP) among all the airlines at 90.5 per cent at the four metro airports of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Vistara at 88.5 per cent took the second position followed by SpiceJet (86.5 per cent). Jet Airways, Jet Lite and IndiGo all recorded a OTP of 85.9 per cent at the four airports.

The industry paid over ₹2.76 crore to the over 1 lakh passengers affected by cancellations, delays and those who were denied boarding in October this year. This includes paying over ₹1.25 crore to over 93,000 passengers from among the 1 lakh passengers who were affected by delays in flights.
