Around 200 engineers of Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) struck work on Saturday.
The engineers went on strike protesting non-payment of December salaries, signalling fresh worries for the debt-laden carrier. Airline officials, however, attributed this to some technical glitch.
“Engineers with salary accounts in ICICI Bank seem to have been affected. We are trying to figure out the problem and are hopeful of resolving it soon,” the airline official said. The strike did not affect Kingfisher's flight operations, the officials said.
The cash-strapped airline had earlier claimed that all staff had been paid. The salary payments have been delayed for four months.
“In fact, we paid the salaries of all employees on April 4 itself,” the official said.
Kingfisher Airlines Chairman, Mr Vijay Mallya, had at that time assured his employees that their salaries would be paid by April 10.
Mr Mallya is under pressure from lenders to inject equity into the airline, which has slashed its flight schedule and grounded most of its fleet.
The airline has terminated operations to 28 of its 56 destinations and has been operating a scaled-down flight schedule of about 100 services each day.
KFA owes $1.3 billion to banks and various lenders.
