“Why do some people reach the top of a ladder, while some always struggle to reach the top? It is the attitude that makes the difference,” was the message given to management graduates at a programme on Saturday.

Delivering a lecture on the topic “Attitude and its impact on career building” at a programme organised by The Hindu Business Line Club at Viveka Institute of Technology at Nunna near here, Hotel Minerva Grand group General Manager, Mr Bhasker Kommu, said that attitude and honesty were two fundamentals that were needed to be adopted for a success path. A positive attitude towards life and work, and honesty towards family, organisation and self could make a person totally successful, he said. The talk was sponsored by Tata Photon.

He said that people with a positive attitude would always love their jobs. “Remember that to be successful you have to have heart in your job and job in your heart. A successful person does not just complete his or her job and sign out. But, he or she looks for additional ways to make their mark, and share the work of their colleagues and bosses. They send positive signals to their superiors. They build and maintain healthy, effective relationships in all directions – with the people they work for, the people they work with and the people who work for them,” he said.

Mr Bhasker advised students not to participate in any rat race, because “even if you win you will only be a rat. “Instead, participate in lion's race. Even if you lose, you will be a lion.”

He said that faith in the self, willingness to learn and change, have a ‘can-do' approach and be ready to take up challenges were some of the other aspects of positive attitude. Elaborating about what the managements expect from an employee, he listed discipline, following the instructions of superiors, grooming, not having a casual approach and cleanliness as the required essential qualities.

Mr K. Chandrasekaran, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, explained about The Hindu Business Line Club and said that one needed to have information on fingertips to be successful in career.

SVIT Secretary and Correspondent, Mr Gadde Rajaling, governing body members, Mr Y. Ramesh and Mr V. Ramakrishna, Principal Mr V. Ramakrishna and MBA Department head, Mr V.V. Seshamohan, also spoke.
