It is important to remember that humans co-exist and all have a role in improving the quality of life, said Dr V. Prakash, former Director, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), here on Monday.

He said this while delivering a lecture, ‘The dynamics of culture, science and tradition in management', organised by the BL Club and sponsored by Syndicate Bank for the students of B N Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences.

He spoke about the culture, the tradition, the high science, the sustainability factor and the potential for utilising each other's experience for a better and safer tomorrow for the entire world.

Dr Prakash, sharing from his experience, told the students to have a passion to excel. “If you do not have passion, you do not go forward in life. You need to have passion to become a millionaire and also the compassion for the needy,” he said.

His presentation also focused on global-warming, food and pharmaceuticals. He noted that every one degree rise in temperature was reducing agricultural yield by 10 per cent, and rice and wheat were some of the important crops that are the victims of this climate change. Agricultural management would play a critical role in facing future challenges.

The former Director of the research institute noted that channelling the advantages of inventions and innovations for the benefits of disadvantaged populations the world over would not only mark the success of science and technology but also sustain civilisations that would leave behind a world worthy of habitation for the future generations.

“According to me, 100 per cent food and nutritional security is achievable through scientific adaptations and passion for science,” Dr Prakash said.

Dr S. Anand, Chairman, B. N. Bahadur Institute of Management Sciences, recalled the work done by Dr Prakash as the director of CFTRI and his contribution as a food scientist.

SyndYuva and SyndVidya, the two products launched by Syndicate Bank for the youth, were also introduced to the students.

Syndicate Bank, it was pointed out, is in the forefront in disbursing loans to students pursuing higher education.
