Parliamentarians such as Manick Tagore (Congress) and D Raja (CPI) on Wednesday pledged their support for the demand for universal pension for the elderly.
Addressing thousands of people at the Pension Parishad in Jantar Mantar, they said they would get 300 MPs to sign the pledge that has already been signed by 70 MPs cutting across party lines.
The Pension Parishad was jointly launched by social activists Baba Adhav and Aruna Roy, and is demanding the inclusion of universal pension of a minimum of Rs 3,000 a month in Budget 2013, a release said.
