More than 20 lakh persons were provided jobs under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has said.
Under the scheme, the government released Rs 5,381.63 crore to provide credit-linked subsidy to boost self-employment as well as wage employment through setting up of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector. Since 2008-09, more than 2.33 lakh projects have been assisted, the MSME Ministry said.
The Ministry has also directed the Khadi and Village Industries Corporation and other implementing agencies to ensure that at least 100 projects per district are assisted under the scheme this year, a Ministry release said.
