The arrest of social activist Anna Hazare in New Delhi before the launch of his hunger strike seeking a stronger Lokpal legislation on Tuesday evoked protest here.
Social activists, NGOs and supporters of the Gandhian leader and some political parties condemned the arrest.
A large number of Hazare's supporters also gathered near the Indira Park here and staged a protest demanding his immediate release. Some of them also sat on hunger strike.
Political parties, including the Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtra Samithi also condemned the police action as ‘unconstitutional'. The TDP chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, registered his protest at the Ambedkar statue here.
According to reports reaching here, protest meetings, demonstrations were held by students and social activists in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Warangal, Adilabad, among other places.
