The Rajya Sabha, which has been facing continued disruption by the Opposition parties, leaving some crucial Bills, such as on GST, in a limbo, is set to take up 18 Bills in the remaining three sittings from Monday.
The contentious GST Bill, however, does not figure in the list of business.
So far, the Winter Session of Parliament, which began on November 26 and ends on December 23, saw the passing of 12 Bills by the Lok Sabha, and introduction of six new Bills.
In contrast, the Rajya Sabha passed only one Bill pertaining to negotiable instruments, while no new Bills were introduced.
After the Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari called for an all-party meeting last Friday, the prospects of passing of some pending Bills in the Upper House seem to have brightened.
The 18 Bills, for which the Business Advisory Committee of the Upper House has allotted a total of 43.50 hours for discussion, are: The Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts Bill, 2015, The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2015, The Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill,2015, The Appropriation Bills pertaining to Supplementary Demands for Grants (General) for 2015-16 and Excess Demands for Grants (General) for 2012-13, all passed by the Lok Sabha during this session and The Whistle Blower Protection (Amendment) Bill,2015, The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill,2015, as passed by the Lok Sabha earlier and The Child Labour (Protection and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2012, on which the Standing Committee presented its Report in December 2013, an official statement read.
The politically hot issue of the role of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, which was being raised by the Congress in both the Houses, may also be taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha, apart from growing intolerance endangering the unity and diversity of the country and prices of essential commodities and foodgrains.
The Lok Sabha, in the remaining three sittings, is slated to take up the Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The National Waterways (Amendment) Bill, 2015 for discussion.
A short discussion on the situation in Nepal and India-Nepal relations, as also on Sustainable Development Goals is also scheduled in the Lok Sabha.
