Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, on Friday, appealed to the Left and Congress to help implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Addressing a press conference here, soon after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government for a second term, Jaitley said: “(Imposition of) GST is not a BJP issue” but a national issue. It will help consuming States like West Bengal, Odisha and others.” Trinamool has already extended support to GST. The State Finance Minister Amit Mitra is the chairman of the empowered committee of State finance ministers on GST.
