The Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad has urged the State Government not to claim its share of power generated by Kudankulam atomic power plant.

A resolution adopted at the 49th state conference of the parishad demanded that the state instead demand assistance for generating solar and wind-based renewable energy.

The resolution has appealed to the Central Government to desist from pressing ahead with synchronisation of the Kudankulam plant. It also wants the Central Government to examine the possibility of phasing out existing nuclear power plants.

The resolution said countries such as the US, Germany, France and Japan were giving up atomic power and replacing it with renewable energy.

Briefing the media on the resolution adopted at the conference, Dr R.V.G. Menon, a former parishad president, said atomic power had no place in India’s energy security.
