The meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5 will cover the areas of security, economy, development cooperation, clean energy, climate, infrastructure, urban mobility, innovation, higher education, skill development, culture and food security, said German Ambassador to India Martin Ney on Thursday.

Chancellor Merkel arrives in India on October 4 for the third India-German Intergovernmental Consultations (IgC) and will also travel to Bengaluru, said Ney.

“I do not promise too much if I say that we can expect path-breaking results, the signing of very substantial agreements,” Ney said adding that we should consider this (Intergovernmental Consultations) as the joint cabinet meeting of our two governments. Incidentally this will be the fourth meeting between the two leaders in the past 11 months, the Ambassador said.

On the sidelines of the IgC, the Chancellor’s business delegation and Indian business leaders will have a business summit here.

“Apart from government-to-government agreements, Indian and German enterprises are expected to conclude deals with Indian business partners,” Ney said. He, however, declined to give details on the total value of the agreements to be signed during the visit.

In Bengaluru, on October 6, the focus will be on business relations between the two countries.

“Chancellor Merkel will meet with representatives of several German companies that have a strong presence in Bengaluru, employ many young Indians and contribute to Make in India as well as Digital India”. In addition, Modi and Merkel will visit the Bosch innovation centre, Ney said.

The visit will be followed by a business forum during which the two leaders will interact with business leaders from both sides, he announced.
