What will a Donald Trump presidency bode for India? While statements from the Republican on outsourcing and H1B visas have generated little cause for optimism till now, a silver lining may well have emerged.

On Wednesday, Trump’s transition team announced that Indra Nooyi, the India-born CEO of PepsiCo, and Travis Kalanick, co-founder of taxi-hailing service Uber, have joined the President-elect’s business advisory council. Both have significant business interests in India, and the sheer size of India’s population make it a market they can’t afford to upset.

In fact, Kalanick is currently in India, meeting with ministers, entrepreneurs and celebrities. He is also scheduled to meet Nirmala Sitharaman, the Commerce and Industry Minister, later this week.

Trump’s business council, named the Strategic and Policy Forum, is headed by Stephen Schwarzman, co-founder of global investment firm Blackstone, and is packed with top honchos of America’s biggest private companies.

This includes the chiefs of General Motors, JPMorgan Chase & Company, IBM, Disney and Wal-Mart.

Elon Musk, chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SpaceX and Tesla, is also part of the team.
