Retirement fund body EPFO plans to double the coverage of establishments under it to 20 lakh from 10 lakh at present, said Santosh Gangwar, Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent charge), here. “Many people ask me how we will do this, but I am confident that we will achieve this soon,” the Minister said on the occasion of the 65th Foundation Day of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). “There are about 40 crore workers in the unorganised sector and about five crore in the organised. We plan to bring more unorganised sector workers under EPFO,” he said. Later, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who was the chief guest at the event, gave away the best performing regional office award to Surat, followed by Noida and Kollam. The award for best portfolio manager for bringing “the best returns on investment’ was given to UTI Asset Management Ltd.
