Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh is confident of his State showing big growth in the next five years.

His confidence stems from from the measures his government has taken over the past 10 years to address two major challenges — Naxal attacks and poor infrastructure.

In an exclusive interview to BusinessLine , Singh said his target was to make Chhattisgarh one of the top four States in the next three-four years. This, he said, will be achieved through education and opening up employment opportunities in Naxal-affected areas.

“I try to convince them (investors) saying things are not that bad. Whether they want to invest or not, I tell them to visit the State once. Many have changed minds after a visit, but an investment decision involves various things which I cannot influence. I just want to tell them there is more in Chhattisgarh and Naxals are fast fading. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is talking of ‘Make in India’, but I would say ‘Make in Chhattisgarh’,” he said. “Right from the beginning I have been focusing on improving the infrastructure. Though the State had all the mineral wealth it was not able to tap the true potential due to lack of proper road and rail connectivity. This apart, there were also challenges in the power sector,” he said.

On Saturday, two mega projects — a ultra mega steel plant, and the second phase of Rowghat-Jagdalpur railway line — will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in the State.
