The State government has taken steps for a comprehensive training programme for school teachers to keep them apace with the changing times.
The State Education Minister, Mr P.K. Abdu Rabb, said that all school teachers would be covered under the three-phased, 50-day-long training in two to three years. They will be trained to meet new challenges, he said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the State-level Praveshanolsavam (reception accorded to children on school reopening) at the Ernakulam Government Girl's Higher Secondary School here on Monday.
Parental squad
Dharma Sena, a squad made up of ten parents, will be formed at schools to help inculcate moral values among children and to extend guidance to save them from falling prey to drugs, alcohol and other bad habits.
A panchayat level coordinator will also be appointed for the squad, the Minister said.
He said strengthening of parent teacher associations to make them more effective will be the focus during this academic year since they have a prominent role to play in improving infrastructure in government and aided schools.
The government has also taken steps to distribute text books well in advance of the start of the academic year, he added.
The Minister also inaugurated the scheme of free distribution of rice to students at the function.
