Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) would promote gobar-gas and solar units in Dakshina Kannada district.

Mr T. Sampath Kumar, Director (Mangalore) of SKDRDP, said here in a press release that till now SKDRDP has helped set up 401 gobar gas and solar units in rural areas of the district.

During the current fiscal, it is planning to set up 500 gobar gas units and another 500 solar lighting units in rural areas, he said. The aim is to promote alternative energy sources among rural people.

He said that SKDRDP has has promoted 18,022 SHGs (self-help groups) covering 1.81 lakh families in rural areas of Dakshina Kannada district. These SHGs have saved around Rs 16.43 crore.

Steps have been taken to conduct agriculture training camps in the district. As many as 342 such training camps have helped 15,732 people in the district, he said. Added to this, regular agri fairs are being conducted in the district.
