The United States has said it is encouraging countries to diversify away from Iranian oil.
Notably, India and China are among the major consumers of Iranian oil.
“We’re certainly telling all of our partners around the world that we want to see as many countries as possible wean themselves from dependence on Iranian crude.
So that’s our message,” the State Department spokesperson, Ms Victoria Nuland, told presspersons at her daily news conference yesterday.
Ms Nuland was responding to a question on news reports that Afghanistan is thinking of buying more oil from Iran to bring down fuel prices in the country.
