The CBI will be able to file its supplementary chargesheet in the 2G spectrum allocation case only by mid-September, the Supreme Court was informed on Wednesday.
The agency was to file the second supplementary chargesheet by August 31. But senior advocate Mr K K Venugopal, representing the CBI, told the apex court that though the investigation has been completed by the agency, the final document has to be vetted by some senior officers before it is filed.
Meanwhile, the apex court was also told that the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department will file before it their respective status reports regarding the investigation into the 2G scam on September 1. The court will hear the matter again on September 1.
The apex court was hearing petitions the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (an NGO) and the Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy. Acting on these petitions, the court had been monitoring the CBI investigation into the 2G case. The CBI has already filed a chargesheet and a supplementary chargesheet in the case.
