Reliance Telecom Ltd (RTL) on Friday denied all allegations against it and its employees accused in the 2G spectrum case.
The company told a Special Court that the CBI slapped charges against it due to its “big name.”
The counsel for RTL said neither the company nor its three employees accused in the case – Mr Gautam Doshi, Group Managing Director, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group; Mr Hari Nair, Senior Vice-President, Reliance ADAG; and Mr Surendra Pipara, Senior VP, R-ADAG and RTL – committed anything illegal.
RTL, an accused in the case, said Tiger Trading Pvt Ltd – which allegedly had 90.1 per cent stake in Swan Telecom (which got the 2G licence) – was not its associate company. It said the concerned share-holding details are in “public domain” and part of Registrar of Companies' records.
RTL said that at the time of issuance of the letters of intent to Swan, RTL was not in the picture, adding that by then “Balwas (Mr Shahid Balwa and other promoters of Swan) had taken over the firm.”
Meanwhile, Mr Nair, a Company Secretary, denied conspiracy and illegal motive on his part. Claiming that he was only “a glorified clerk” with Swan Capital (later named Swan Telecom), Mr Nair said in the eyes of law, a Company Secretary is no more than a servant of the Board and carries out its orders.
