The Noida City Magistrate may take the help of the Regional Education Department and the employment office to resolve the ongoing differences between HCL Technologies and fresh graduates ‘hired’ by the company.

On Monday, the Magistrate told HCL Technologies to disclose all the details with regard to the protests by freshers who have not been given joining dates despite being given the letter of intent (LoI) in 2011.

To hear HCL today

The Magistrate heard the grievances of the engineering graduates and has now asked the company to come up with their version on Tuesday.

“I have seen the presentations from students today and will hear from HCL Technologies on Tuesday. I have informed the Higher Education Department and will involve Regional Employment Office (under Labour Ministry) if need be,” Sanjay Chauhan, City Magistrate, Noida told Business Line .

He said the frehsers have been waiting for the joining dates since last 10 months and that is a long period. “This case should be sorted out amicably and there should be better opportunity for these kids,” he said.

Around 50 fresh graduates from in–and-around Delhi went to meet the City Magistrate. There were countrywide protests by these fresh engineers last Monday in front of its offices in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad, demanding date of joining with immediate effect.

Video statement

HCL Tech has said that it can give joining dates by August only. It has also given some of the freshers the option to join HCL Infrastructure at a lower salary (Rs 2.75 lakh annually compared with Rs 3.25 lakh in HCL Tech). But the protesting graduates, who were given the LoIs during campus placements, have declined both these offers on grounds that they want to join HCL Tech.

Meanwhile, the company has put out a video statement (on YouTube) on Friday wherein Prithvi Shergill, Head of Human Resource, HCL Tech, said the company has already on-boarded around 1,000 freshers from the same batch till February (out of around 5,000 placed).

Company executives said, on conditions of anonymity, that some of the graduates have accepted placement in HCL Infrastructure. Those who have accepted this offer have been told to join work between April and May.
