The world's third largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel (Airtel) on Thursday launched its 4G services commercially in 296 towns across the country.

This follows the successful trial of services in select cities and feedback received from its customers, the company said.

Airtel has led the 4G story in India, having launched India's first 4G (also called LTE) network in Kolkata in April 2012.

Airtel 4G is available to customers across a range of smart devices including mobile phones, dongles, 4G hotspots, and Wi-Fi dongles.

"With the help of the feedback received from the beta launches, we have now built India's first commercial 4G network that will make high-speed mobile broadband a reality," Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Airtel (India and South Asia), said here at the launch.

The national roll-out on Thursday is another step in Airtel's journey to be an innovative and customer focused brand, he added.

Features

The company is offering key features such as videos across genres including comedy, drama, action, thriller, kids and science from popular Hollywood and Bollywood hits apart from collection of classics.
