Telecom major Bharti Airtel launched its 4G services in Bangalore today. The State is the second, after Kolkata to have the fourth generation broadband wireless services.

4G technology enables users to access wireless broadband services at 30-40 Mbps speeds compared to 3-4 Mbps on 3G platform. It allows high speed Internet services that include high definition video streaming and instant photo and video downloads.

Airtel has started with Bangalore in the Karnataka circle, and has covered about 25 per cent of the city, Mr Sanjay Kapoor, CEO- India and South Asia, said at a press conference today. The company has invested about Rs 10,000 crore for this in Karnataka alone and would go next to Mangalore and Mysore to launch the services, Mr Kapoor added.

In Karnataka, the company offers four tariff plans – lowest being Rs 999 a month for 6GB of data, Rs 1,399 a month for 9 GB, Rs 1,999 for 18 GB and Rs 2,999 for 30 GB.The dongle is priced at Rs 7,999 and an indoor CPE with wi-fi costs Rs 7,750, according to a press statement.

Airtel, last month, launched the 4G-LTE services in Kolkata and has seen “overwhelming” response, Mr Kapoor said. The company will soon launch 4G in Pune for the Maharashtra circle before it goes to Chandigarh for the Punjab circle.
