Amazon.in has invested in nine dedicated Fulfilment Centres (FCs) and 33 Delivery Stations exclusively for furniture and large appliances to cater to growing demand across the country.
The new FCs are located in Karnataka, Haryana, Telangana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat and Maharashtra. With this launch, Amazon.in has 34 FCs across 10 States, covering a total area of over 3 million square feet with a storage capacity close to 10 million cubic feet and 150 delivery centres, the largest fulfilment infrastructure in the industry.
To cater to demand this summer, Amazon.in has also increased its selection to 5,000 products in the large appliances category consisting of air conditioners, air coolers, refrigerators, washing machines and TVs. The infrastructure will also serve the furniture category with over 400 products.
The online marketplace will provide installation services for customers across Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.
Manish Tiwary, Vice-President, Category Management, Amazon India, said: “We have entered a new phase in one part of our business — large appliances and furniture categories, which have seen huge growth and generated customer demand for products such as ACs, air coolers and refrigerators for the summer. We have partnered with several of the big appliances brands, such as TCL, LG, Samsung, to launch an exclusive collection for Amazon customers, keeping in mind customer preferences as gleaned from vast customer data.”
The category has seen nearly 200 per cent growth in the past one year and grew 5x of daily volumes during the last sale event held in January. The new FCs will enable customers in 20 cities to receive products the very next day, and “we will continue to expand our reach to offer an unparalleled shopping experience,” he said.
Stating that the new infrastructure will provide employment to 1,200 people, Akhil Saxena, Vice-President, Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, said: “Our investments in dedicated infrastructure will allow us to come closer to our customers and sellers, and offer fast, reliable delivery of large appliances and furniture to more than 150 cities.”
