Apple has launched the iTunes store in India. This will allow users to buy local and international music and also movies from the store.

Single songs are priced between Rs 7 and Rs 15 and albums start from Rs 70. Apple has also launched its iTunes Match service in India, which allows users to store music, bought from sources other than iTunes, in the cloud. This service is priced at Rs 1,200 per year. Until now, the Indian iTunes Store only featured some free books and podcasts.

Now the store features Bollywood, Tamil film songs and International music from all major labels.

While India is a challenging market for the content industry due to rampant piracy, it is a huge market especially for entertainment content. According to the Airtel Mobitude survey, there were 150 million mobile music downloads in 2011.
