Online marketplace AskmeBazaar.com is planning to scale up its ‘next day delivery’ network.

Faster delivery (a day after placing the order) will be introduced across 50 cities over the next two months; and across Tier-I and -II cities by this fiscal-end.

The service, called Next Day Delivery (NDD), is currently available across three cities – Jaipur, Nagpur and Kolkata.

According to Marichi Mathur, Head – NDD, the model is already being tested across several cities on a pilot basis.

“The NDD model is being run as a pilot in some cities and over the next two months it will be there across 50 cities. Product categories will be city-specific,” he said. He was here to launch its next day delivery model.

The next day delivery model promises delivery with no shipping charges, the day after the order is placed or within 24 hours. It involves going hyper-local and setting up an eco-system (for online retailing) within the city.

The product portfolio mostly includes consumer electronics, mobile phones, and medical devices among others, but varies from city to city.

For AskmeBazaar, the next day delivery option comes as a “capital-light model”. The company need not stock the goods or invest in warehouses. The responsible sellers will be stocking the offerings. All that the e-commerce player will do is connect the local buyer to local sellers.

E-tailers such as Flipkart and Snapdeal have already introduced such faster delivery options, albeit at an extra charge, across some of its product categories.

Increased business According to Mathur, the company expects the NDD model to see approximately 1,000 transactions a day by September and 5,000 a day till March 2016.
