Data analytics major Ugam is eyeing new geographies such as Australia and Japan to expand its presence.
Its co-founder and Chief Executive Sunil Mirani said that the official launch of Ugam at Melbourne in Australia is slated for March. “We intend to enter Japan as well,” he added.
Mirani was in the city at the Big Data workshop hosted by Ugam recently.
This incidentally is Ugam’s first step towards building awareness about the opportunity involved in the data analytics space.
Over 100 students from various colleges in this region are said to have taken part in the workshop.
The company with a team size of 1,800 across its locations in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore, besides the US and the UK plans to add another 300 to 350 people during the current year.
“We have around 900 people working in our Mumbai facility, 750 in Coimbatore and close to 90 in Bengaluru. The team size is relatively small in the US at around 30 and about nine individuals in the UK. We have hired about three people in Australia,” the CEO said.
While stating that the US market has been the best this far for Ugam, Mirani said the restrictions on US visa issuance imposed by Trump administration could make travel difficult/ uncertain, but “our team size is small. We are not looking at a huge presence on-site.”
