Game lovers beware! The mail that promises to take you to popular game sites could be a trap. You should think twice before clicking a link you receive through emails.
Hackers seem to have set their eye on game lovers. Moscow-headquartered Internet security solutions firm Kaspersky says hackers are making 7,000 attempts every day to infect gamers around the world.
India ranked third in receiving the attacks after Russia and China.
“Cybercriminals invoke the names of well-known gaming sites and try to lure gamers to their fake Web sites to harvest passwords from registered gaming accounts,” Kaspersky said, quoting from a research conducted on the 2012 figures.
Its experts recorded 1.5 crore attempted visits to phishing Web sites that are designed to look like leading online gaming firm. There were up to 50,000 attempted redirects to phishing sites each day.
“Their target is to gain access to personal user data such as passwords to online games and online banking systems,” it said.
To do this, cyber criminals send an average of 10 emails with malicious links and attachments to gamers every day, The malicious programmes targeting online games is increasing at a rate of 5,000 new programmes a day.
