The way companies meet their IT requirements is changing fast. After SaaS (software-as-a-service) that has significantly reduced cost of acquiring IT solutions, it is the turn of WaaS (Workspace-as-a-Service) to lessen the burden of planning, owning and maintaining costly IT infrastructure.

Clients can pick a few services from the catalogue and place an order according to their needs. Though it connects several people and variety of devices, the solution ensures security of data.

Mahindra Satyam has launched WaaS that piggybacks on technologies offered by Citrix Systems, Microsoft and Liquidware Labs. Its WaaS is a hosted, managed solution that allows customers to have the flexibility of dedicated, pooled or shared virtual desktops or applications that can be accessed any time, from anywhere, using any device that is in the loop.

“WaaS provides user profiling and assessment methodology for analysing various roles within an organisation and their suitability to adopt workspace virtualisation. It will help in user segmentation, defining various workspace usage roles, identification of best-fit users and creation of high level design,” Mr Sudhir Nair, Senior Vice-President (Infrastructure Management Services) of Mahindra Satyam, said.

“WaaS can be provided as a hosted on-premise solution within the customer data centre or on a dedicated infrastructure at a Mahindra Satyam-hosted data centre. We also offer a flexible financial model, including per desktop, usage-based pricing to alleviate the financial burden on the customer,” Mr Sudhir Nair said.

The IT firm has developed a delivery methodology to make the transition from traditional desktop environments to the new platform easier by using tools, processes and engagement models.

“We have developed concept of ‘Demo-in-a-Box' to enable customers to experience workspace virtualisation. This will further reduce the time to install, configure and implement a demo environment as now it will come as a pre-configured hardware setup that can be plugged into a customer environment,” he said.
