There is no let up in the number of malicious attacks blocked on the computers and mobile devices of Kaspersky Lab users in the third quarter over the previous quarter. The Moscow-based Internet security solutions company has pegged the growth at 33.1 per cent in the number of malicious attacks blocked on the computers and mobile devices.

"About 31 per cent more unique URLs that triggered web antivirus detections, a 14.4 per cent increase in the number of mobile malware samples added to Kaspersky Lab’s collection,” the firm said in the quarterly update on the cyber attacks.

The number of threats is not something that is going to come down. It is because cybercrime has become lucrative. “There are potentially great profits to be had with moderate effort. And there is very little difference between hi-tech and common crimes. Shellshock or Bash Bug loomed menacingly over the entire Q3,” the report said.

The report felt that awareness level on cyber security is low. The number of people who don’t care much about their devices’ security is quite large. Quoting a survey, the report said 1 of 8 people just don’t believe that cyber threats are real, making them soft targets for the attacks.
