Honor, the brand owned by Chinese smartphone-maker Huawei, today launched the Honor Play smart phone in the country.

Honor Play was announced earlier this year and will be available only on Amazon, apart from Honor's own online store. The Android smartphone will be available in two versions in India -- 4 GB and 6 GB RAM size, with both the versions getting 64 GB of internal memory. The 4 GB version is priced at ₹19,999 and the 6 GB version costs ₹23,999.

One of the highlights of the phone is its processor. The Honor Play is powered by Huawei's own Kirin 970 chipset, a flagship-grade processor that powers Huawei's high-end phones, such as the P20 Pro. Like other phones from Huawei's and Honor's stables, the Play also focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, with an AI camera and AI support for gaming.

Speaking at the launch, Suhail Tariq, Chief Marketing Officer, Huawei India, stressed on the company's investment in innovations and research, highlighting the 14 R&D centres around the globe. The company has invested $13.8 billion in R&D in 207, with a total of $60 billion having been invested since 2008.

The Honor Play smartphone focusses on mobile gaming, with features such as 3D surround gaming sound and GPU Turbo, which enhances gaming performances and increases battery life, the company claimed. It also uses AI for image and sound recognition to optimise a user's gaming experience.

Honor has released a range of phones this year, catering mostly to an audience that is looking for well-performing phones in the sub-₹20,000 price segment.

"The launch of Honor Play marks the beginning of innovative technology with Kirin 970 and AI technology, making consumers shift from smartphones to "Intelligent phones"," P Sanjeev, Vice President- Sales, Huawei India, said.
